Defensive Driving for 55+

Cars have changed and so have the traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel every day. Some drivers, age 55-plus, have never looked back since they got their first driver’s license, but even the most experienced benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. You can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. You’ll learn adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. This course meets the requirements for a discount from your insurance company.

COURSE REQUIREMENT UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, the 8-hour initial course for the 55 + Alive program in Minnesota has been reduced to a 4-hour course. The eight-hour course is no longer required for first-time participants.

The class is held at the Laker Transition Building (1104 West River Road).  Please enter the main doors located on the south side of the building.

Please NOTE: Minimum of 7 students is required in order for the class to run. If we do not reach that number, the class may be cancelled.
