BIG Rigs MnDOT Plows!Out & About AdventuresThe Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) drivers use some very large snow plows to keep the highways free of snow. Come explore these giant rigs as they wait in the garage for next big snow! Meet at the MNDOT/DVS visitor door, 1000 Hwy 10 W. Detroit Lakes. Guests can park within the first fence and we will drive together through the gate to the second fenced area. If plows need to be out for a big snow, watch for a reschedule date.Winter 2026 -

The American Heart Association offers this course to help individuals, 11 years of age and older, prepare for the responsibility of babysitting. Learn how to care for infants through school age children and perform tasks such as diapering, preparing simple meals, and dressing. In addition, the course offers ideas for toys and games to play with the children. Locally sourced by craftsman and farmer, Josh Reinitz of East Henderson Farm. Each paller has a unique quality. The wood is truly reclaimed, meaning each pallet will be completely individual and will have flaws, such as nail holes and small dings. The wood has been carefully selected, pre-sanded and assembled. All supplies included for chosen design. Code Championship Tournament Series-VIRTUALYouth EnrichmentBuild a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Whether this is your first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. The Code Championship Series is a series of four tournaments in four weeks (it's ok to miss one or two). These tournaments will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. You can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. You’ll learn adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. This course meets the requirements for a discount from your insurance company. COURSE REQUIREMENT UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, the 8-hour initial course for the 55 + Alive program in Minnesota has been reduced to a 4-hour course. Driver Education Classroom (+ Behind-the-Wheel) In-PersonDriver EducationProgram Information Tuition is $325 and due at the time of registration. Tuition includes 30 hours of classroom and 6 hours of behind the wheel training. It is recommended students wait until they are 15 years old to take driver education. You must be at least 14½ before the start of class to register. When registering for drivers education, please DO NOT use your student's email. We must have the parent/guardian email attached to the registration. Attendance to all class meeting times is mandated by state law. If your student misses class, he/she will have to make up the day(s) missed, on our next available session. Entry of the e-card will not be submitted until classes are made up. Behind-the-wheel training is typically scheduled 6-8 weeks before a student plans to take their driving test. BTW training is scheduled directly with the instructors to fit student and instructor schedules. Students who do not show up for a scheduled BTW appointment will be charged $60. Cancellations must be made at least 12 hours before the scheduled driving time or you may be charged an additional $30. Below is a copy of the parent/student agreement for your reference. Driver Education Parent/Student Program Agreement 30 hours of classroom attendance is mandated by state law. If you feel you will not be able to attend all classes in this session, please let our office know and we will schedule you for a future session. Community Education reserves the right to charge $32 per hour for make-up of missed classroom time. Students who withdraw from the classroom session after class has started will forfeit $75 of their tuition. New e-Card System: The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has launched an e-Card system for driver's education, replacing the physical "blue" and "white cards". Students and parents will no longer need to track paper cards. Once students have completed the classroom time, including attendance to all hours and coursework, they will be added to the e-Card system showing they have completed the class and be eligible to take a learner’s permit test. . Students are eligible to take their driving test at age 16, after holding their learner’s permit for at least 6 months, completing a supervised driving log, and completing 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Behind-the-wheel training is typically scheduled 4–6 weeks before a student plans to take their driving test. All cell phones MUST be placed in the cell phone caddy. Students will receive it back at the end of class. What if I took the 30-hour classroom instruction elsewhere, and not with Detroit Lakes Community Education?Families who did not register and pay for the classroom training directly through Detroit Lakes Community Education can enroll in our behind-the-wheel program to be eligible to take their learners permit. If your child completed the 30 hours driving training in another community or an approved online organization, families can complete the behind-the-wheel with us.
